First, thanks everyone for your awesome comments, they are fun to read! Post a comment if you are reading this!
Second, the intense biking and camping trip that we had planned actually did not end up happening. Now don't get me wrong- Maria and I woke up ready to go with our bags packed, but our French friend, Roch; decided his back was hurting and he could not possibly make the journey! ya anyway, so they drove us from their beach house at cap ferret to their other house in Pays Basque (southern france) which is also right along the ocean! The town we are in now is right next to St Jean de Lux!
So for the past 3 days we have just been hanging out here in Pays Basque. Its a vacation spot for a lot of the French, it is right along the southern coast of France, right next to the Spanish boarder (tomorrow Roch is taking us on a day trip to San Sebastian Spain)
Its actually very nice to relax a little, traveling can be tiring!
The family is very nice, and its nice not to have to pay for lodging and food each day! Of course we help cook and stuff, and they have bikes we can use to explore the cute village. Today Maria and I went on a bike ride to a chateau! Wr have also been going to the beach (yay i finally bought a frisbee!) and cooking and watching movies!
We are also speaking a lot of french which is good! sometimes they speak in English but usually French, and we try to speak in French and remind them to also. Maria recently studied abroad in France so she can understand most things, though she is more shy about speaking then I am (though probably better). But ya, I realize i have forgotten a lot of French since I have not taken it for a few years, but its nice to be here and i am learning a lot. But I realize if I really want to become fluent in French I probably have to live here for an extended period of time, so we will see!
Oh I forgot to mention, i had an experience with Spanish hospitals in Barcelona Spain! haha dont worry its all good now though! Basically I had an allergic reaction to mosquito bites (thats never happened, i guess sometimes it can happen when you have not been bitten for a while and anyway the mosquitoes LOVE me!) So anyway we finally figured out what that was and we went to a pharmacy and finally found someone who spoke English and she basically said we needed to go to the hospital, which was very annoying because of course that is not what you want to do when you are travelling and have limited time in a city. But we went, luckily there was a hospital like ' blocks from our hostel and there was a nurse who spoke English. Then we waited at least é hours (the nurse said that was way longer than usual; gee thanks) and the doctor told me this hospital was for people that were "like dying" and i had to go to another one, which was not far. We went the next day and they gave me some pills and ointment, but anyway dont worry they are all gone now. Anyway; that's my hospital story! I dont think I have been to a hospital (for myself) since the day I was born so ya. But ya not that exciting!
One annoying thing is the keyboards are different; sorry for any typos!
KK I will post photos now!
Hey - nice to hear from you. Relaxing with a French family at their beach house - and then their other beach house sounds like a fantasy! I'm glad you are getting a rest - travel is tiring. LoveJoyce
ReplyDeleteKimber,
ReplyDeleteI stayed with a family in Cap Ferret for a month when I was 16. I remember it as being a very small town. I also remember the WWII bunkers that were still on the beach.
Too bad about the bike camping but you can always do it some other time. Relaxing during a long trip is a good thing. Remember a week or two ago I told you that?
Amber visits us a lot at Casa Laguna. We like having her over for dinner and hearing about how horrible/wonderful her kids are.
